Amundsen Race, Economic Impact and Sustainability
Amundsen Race contributes significantly to the economy in Strömsund municipality, supporting outdoor activities, winter tourism, recreation, and local businesses. Balancing this economic impact with environmental concerns is a key challenge together with our partner Strömsund municipality. To organizing a sustainable sled dog race, we primarily use local services and businesses, embracing animal welfare, minimizing waste and responsible trail and checkpoint management, which can help ensure the long-term viability of the sport while minimizing its environmental footprint.
Regarding animal welfare a core tenet is the health of the dogs, with vets on-site and strict monitoring at checkpoints to ensure the well-being of the animals.
The challenge for Amundsen Race hinges on finding a balance between animal welfare, sustainable winter outdoor activities, economic growth, environmental protection and fostering the local communities that supports Amundsen Race.
Increased environmental awareness, and effective regulations are therefor equally crucial for a sustainable long-distance sled dog race!
