1. he/she is 18 years of age as of the starting date of Amundsen Race.
2. he/she has a valid racing license in the country of origin.
3. Liability insurance is mandatory for drivers and handlers covering the risks of sled dog racing and all consequences.

1. The participant must wear his/her BIB clearly visible on the trail from start to checkpoint Ursvatnett and from the last checkpoint till the finish line.
2. The handler for each participant will wear his own orange handler vest at all checkpoints, start and finish.
3. The race organizer can instruct the participants to wear promotional materials on clothes or sleds.

1. The sled should be equipped with sufficient brakes, scooter mat, brush bow, two (2) snow hooks as well as sled bag. The scooter mat should be of sufficient size to control the team. The scooter mat should be attached to the sled by a stable “tip-up-system”.
2. The sled must be capable of hauling any injured or fatigued dogs under cover, plus equipment and food.
3. Replacement sleds may not be taken out from the depot and in to the staging area other than when for the purpose of changing the sled in front of the team. Empty sled may be replaced with empty sled once and should be reported to the Race Director/Marshal or Checkpoint Responsible.
4. If a sled is broken beyond what is possible to repair, it is possible to replace the sled. Replacement must be approved by the Race Director/Marshal or Checkpoint Responsible.
5. The participant may sit on the sled.

1. The trail goes partly through reindeer grazing areas. The dogs must therefore be kept under strict control. The participant is liable for damages caused by his/her team to reindeer’s.
   
2. On stretches where reindeer’s are present, the drivers needs to be attached to his team/sled with a rope or similar.
   
3. Participants that are observed with intentionally allows dog(s) to run loose will be disqualified immediately.
   
4. At the Checkpoints it’s tighter supervision, which means no participant/handlers are allowed to walk the dogs loose that are picked out of the race/extra dogs in dog cars without dog leash.

1. Amundsen race has two classes in the AR350 and AR250
   • 9-12 dog team. The team should not have more than 12 dogs and not less than nine (9) at start. At the finish line the team has to have a minimum of six (6) dogs.
   • 6-8 dog team. The team can have max eight (8) dogs at start and not less than six (6) dogs. At the finish line the team has to have a minimum of five (5) dogs.
   • Dogs in the sled are counted in the team.
2. Amundsen race has one class in the AR180
   • 6-8 dog team. The team can have max. 8 dogs at start and not less than 6 dogs. At the finish line the team has to have a minimum of 5 dogs.
   • Dogs in the sled are counted in the team.

1. Dogs can be dropped only at the checkpoints Ursvattnet, Norråker and Fjällsikten. The participant is responsible for that the dog(s) is being taken care of by their own handler and the veterinary is informed. It is to be noted in the veterinary hand book.
   
2. The participant can only leave the checkpoint if the dropped dog is handed over to a handler.
3. If the participant wants to drop a dog(s) at CP Ursvattnet the participant has to contact his handler to come to the checkpoint to take over the dog(s). If you have trouble getting in touch with your helper ask the Checkpoint Responsible for help.
   
4. Only handlers who are picking up a dropped dog are allowed at the Ursvattnet Checkpoint. They must leave the checkpoint as quickly as possible once the participant(s) has handed over the dog(s) to the handler. No other help is allowed.
5. You cannot drop a dog at checkpoint Västra Ormsjö as there is no Check-In or Check-Out registration.

1. All dogs that participate in Amundsen Race shall be tagged using a readable microchip. The chip number must be entered in the veterinary handbook.
2. Dogs participating in a race must be at least eighteen (18) months old as of the starting date of Amundsen Race.

1. It is prohibited to follow snow-plowed roads other than the stretches of road decided on by the organizer (marked trail). Information in regard to this is given at the Musher Meeting.

1. Start interval is 2 minute, unless otherwise determined by the organizer.
2. Start takes place in starting groups, 12-dog team and 8-dog team. The time for equalization is valid within each starting group.
3. The driver is obliged to follow the organizers instructions to get from start area and up to start. The driver will receive help to get the team up to the start from the handlers / functionaries with ATV’s
4. Be ready 10 minutes before your start time as the ATV will come to help you to go into the start chute.
5. If you miss your start time frame, you can only start after everyone has left. In this case the time alignment will not be adjusted.
6. The brush bow (front end) of the sled shall determine the starting point of the team, and shall not exceed the starting line until the start signal has been given.

1. Time In CP and finish is determined by the nose of the first dog to cross the CP/finish line.

1. The participant is not allowed to get help of any kind during the race.

1. At checkpoints, the participant is allowed to receive help to steer, brake and keep the team when coming in or leaving the marked areas. Such help is only allowed within the marked areas at the checkpoint.
2. One (1) handler can stand behind the sled to overview the team when resting. It is not allowed to receive any other kind of assistance/help from third parties on checkpoints. This comprehends all tasks with the dog team under layovers/rest periods. Exception: participants in the race are allowed to help each other.

1. AR350 has a total mandatory layover of ten (10) hours + equalization time.
   • A minimum of four (4) hours layover is mandatory in Checkpoint Norråker, for the rest of the manadatory layover the participant is free to split as he/she wishes between checkpoints.
     
2. AR180 and AR250 has a total mandatory layover of six (6) hours + equalization time.
   • A minimum of four (4) hours layover is mandatory in Checkpoint Norråker (AR180) and for the AR250 in Checkpoint Fjällsikten, for the rest of the manadatory layover the participant is free to split as he/she wishes between checkpoints.
     
3. The resting periods have to be taken in full minutes. It is the participants responsibility to make sure that the whole mandatory layover is taken.
4. Not taken the full mandatory layover + equalization time leads to disqualification.

1. Time alignment will take place at the first mandatory layover checkpoint (Norråker AR180/AR350 and Fjällsikten AR250). It is the participants responsibility to ensure that the start time difference is aligned.
   
2. The Earliest Time Out (ETO) the musher can leave checkpoint Norråker (AR350/AR180) or checkpoint Fjällsikten (AR250) after his mandatory rest + equalization time is displayed in the Amundsen Result Service.  More info >>

1. The last time to pass the checkpoint Norråker for AR350 is Sunday morning at 07.00.
2. The last time to pass the checkpoint Fjällsikten for AR250 is Sunday morning at 07.00.
3. The last time to pass the checkpoint Norråker for AR180 is Saterday afternoon at 17.00.
4. The team must have left the checkpoint by this time. Teams that leave the checkpoint after this time are suspended from the race.
5. The Race Management can extend the deadline in extreme weather, or other special conditions.

1. The checkpoints are to be considered as control posts in the race. The participant has to personally sign in/out from checkpoints to continue the race.
2. 
   The handler for each participant will wear his orange handler vest at all checkpoints.
   
3. Checkpoints are provided with a depot (NOT Wilderness Checkpoints). Free access to water and straw.
4. It is the participants responsibility that the handler cleans up after the team and the straw when the team has left the checkpoint. Equipment and trash bags are provided by the organizer.
5. In the wilderness checkpoints Ursvattnet and Västra Ormsjö the participant has to clean up themselves. Not doing this (or not good) will result in a time penalty. Consult with the Checkpoint volunteers to see if everything is okay.

1. There are depots at checkpoints Fjällsikten and Norråker. Depot bags should be marked with the participants name and bib number and put in the marked area.
2. Handler is not allowed to put warm water or prepare/mix dog food to leave in depot for the team. The cooler bags is not allowed to contain prepare/mix dog food when participant takes it to the team.
3. The participant must bring everything taken out from the depot to the staging area. The same goes for equipment and potential waste going from the staging area back to the depot.
4. It’s allowed for the participant to leave the depot bag packed and closed at the staging pole when leaving the checkpoint. It’s NOT allowed for the handler to put gear etc. in the depot bag when it’s placed by the pole. Placing stuff in the depot bag must always happen in the marked depot area.
5. Depot bags are not being transported by the organizer. It is up to each participant to get the depot bag transported to the depot place at each checkpoint

Mentioned here is the mandatory equipment which should be carried in the sled during the whole race. It is required that all equipment is functional in order to be approved. The equipment will be checked before start, at checkpoints and at the finish.

• Two (2) snow hooks.
• GPS with Digital Map (View our GPS-Page for more information) ) with the route recorded on it. (the Route/Tracks can be downloaded from the AR webpages shortly before race start) .
• Veterinarian handbook (distributed upon check in)
• Water cooker, pot and fuel capable of heating a minimum of ½ liter per dog. To be carried in the sled for the entire race.
• Matches and enough red spirit or ignition spirits (at least 1 liter). Matches should be in waterproof packaging (must be carried on the body, not in the sled!).
• Snow shovel
• Magnetic compass
• Axe or long knife (min. 20 cm. blade)
• Winter sleeping bag for extreme conditions – suitable for temperatures as low as -25 or colder
• Extreme Wind bag. Minimum Weight is 1200 grams.
• Or alternatively to extreme wind bag: Tent and regular windbag
• Extreme winter clothing (w / reflectors that are clearly visible in the dark, front and back)
• Extra set of clothing (under and outer clothes, socks and footwear).
• First aid equipment for both driver and dogs.
• Big garbage bags.
• Two light sticks with minimum 6 hours of light or 2 signal pens. (must be carried on the body, not in the sled!)
• 8 booties/dog from each checkpoint, including those in use.
• Reserve dog food, 500 grams per dog in the team at start. This food is to be packed, sealed and carried to the finish unopened, regardless the number of dogs dropped in the race.
• The participant has to have food for min. 24 hours to him/herself. Must consist of at least 500 grams. This has to be carried over the finish.
• Clarification regarding the size of the sled: sled and sled bag must be of such a size that it can be a place for a tired / injured dog. The dog must be transported in a safe and secure manner during the period of the stay in sled bag.
• Mandatory gear that is lost or damaged can be taken/replaced from the depot bag. Any replacement of mandatory gear must first be approved by a judge/race marshal/checkpoint official. Sleds can only be replaced once during the race. (Used dog booties, headlamp/batteries, rubbish sack and fuel for the water cooker/primus are excepted from this rule and can if so desired be replaced from depot).

1. The sled must have reflective markings (minimum 10 cm) on both sides of the handle bar, which should be clearly visible in the dark.
2. There should be reflective markings on the collar of the lead dog (s) or on the neckline between the lead dogs.
3. The participant must at all times also have reflective markings on the front and back of jacket.

1. At the registration every participant will receive a veterinary handbook. This shall be handled to the veterinarian at the checkpoint in connection with the veterinary checks.
2. At the finish line, the veterinary handbook shall be returned to the veterinarian checking the team.
3. It is each participant’s responsibility that the veterinary handbook is signed by the veterinarian at all inspections.
4. Lost veterinary handbook can lead to disqualification or time penalty after consulting the Chief Veterinarian (CV)

1. All feeding and care of dogs shall happen outdoors and only be carried out by the participant. Only cold water may be fetched for preparing dog food.
2. Dogs that start to limp, become injured or ill or for other reasons must be transported to the next checkpoint/finish line in the sled.
3. A dog that lies in the sled when the participant arrives at a checkpoint is to be shown for the veterinary. The dog can continue the race if the veterinary allows it.
4. A team that arrives at a checkpoint or seen on the trail with a dog limping will be disqualified. If a dog sustains an injury, it has to be placed in the sled and delivered to the next checkpoint where the handler can collect it.

1. If a dog dies during the race on the trail between checkpoints, it is to be taken to the next checkpoint or back to the previous checkpoint. The dog is to be transported in the sled and to be covered upon arriving to the checkpoint.
2. The participant shall without delay after checking in notify the race organizer as represented by the race marshal, race director and/or race veterinarian. The participant can only continue the race after obtaining permission to do so by the race marshal, race director and/or race veterinarian.
3. The participant can be disqualified from further participation should it be evident from investigations that the participant is guilty of abuse of the dog or if having in any other way caused the death of the dog.
4. The participant can also be disqualified if he/she at an earlier checkpoint has been told in writing to drop the dog, unless its death was caused by entirely different reasons.
5. If an autopsy of the dog is required, the participant will not be charged.

1. There shall be a cable in the central tow line.
2. Swedish Snaps/Hooks or BGB hooks are NOT allowed during the whole race. Not with the tuglines, necklines or at the stake-out in the checkpoint or in the start area.
3. The Fixlock plastic hook is approved in necklines.

1. No Man’s Land starts at least 1 km before the finishing line and shall be clearly marked. The trail in this stretch shall be broad enough for dog teams to pass each other. In this area the “no right of way” applies.
   In the “no-right-of-way” finishing zone, no team shall have the right of way over a finishing team.
2. A competitor who has been disqualified or has withdrawn shall, in all cases, give way to any team that is still participating in the competition.
3. On other parts of the trail where it is possible to overtake and common sense will have to be used; When one team approaches within fifteen (15) meters of another team, the team behind shall have the immediate right of way upon demand. The musher ahead must stop the dogs and hold them to the best of his/her ability for a maximum of one minute or until the other team has passed, whichever occurs first. The passed team must remain behind at least two (2) minutes before demanding the trail.

1. All mushers must use civil conduct and act in a sportsmanlike manner throughout the race.
2. If the Race Marshal/Race Director determines that musher handler or team conduct at any time in the race area or on trail is detrimental to the race, that team shall be disqualified.
3. Abuse of dogs, with or without an implement, is prohibited. If a musher/handler abuses a dog, that team shall be disqualified.

1. Deliberately littering along the trail, checkpoints or parking areas by the participant or his handler etc. may lead to disqualification or a time penalty.

1. Ski poles can be used after Ursvattnet for all classes. The participant must then bring poles with them in the sled from the start. When using poles, the participant must show great consideration towards other participants and their dog teams.

1. Violation of the rules by the participant or his/her handler team may result in disqualification of the participant or in a time penalty up to 4 hours.
2. If a participant or someone from the participant’s handler team acts improperly towards Amundsen officials/volunteers, other participants, press or spectators, this can result in disqualification of the participant.
   
3. Race officials shall consult with the Chief Veterinarian on all matters relating to dog care and treatment.
   
4. Disqualification during the race requires a ‘unanimously vote‘ of the Race Marshal, Race Director and Chief Veterinarian.
   The team and participant must leave the trail and cannot continue the race.
5. Participants may appeal race official decisions. Appeals pertaining to warnings or time penalties must be presented in writing within two (2) hours after passing the finish line or in the next checkpoint.

1. RACE JURY (RJ): A five-member panel appointed by the Race Marshal at the Musher Meeting. The jury consists of the Race Marshal (RM), Race Director (RD), Chief Veterinarian (CV) and two (2) participants from each of the classes AR180 and AR250/AR350.
2. In the event that the participant(s) concerned is part of the Race Jury he/she will be replaced in the jury by the Board Amundsen Race (BA).
3. Everyone shall have one vote each, but the RM’s (RM) vote shall be counted twice in the event of a tie when not all jury members can or will be present.
4. The decision taken by the race jury is final and no further appeal is possible.
5. RACE MARSHAL (RM): Rules Enforcing Officer and the Chief Judge.
   
6. RACE JUDGE (RG): Rules Enforcing Officer, which falls under the responsibility of the Race Marshal.
7. RACE DIRECTOR (RD): The Race Director is Amundsen Race Supervisor and responsible for overseeing all operations during execution of Amundsen Race.
   
8. BOARD AMUNDSEN RACE (BA): Board JFSHK represented by the Chairman Amundsen Race.
9. CHIEF VETERINARIAN (CV): The Chief Veterinarian leads the group of veterinarians and assistants.
   
10. PARTICIPANT (PA): The person who takes part in Amundsen Race 350, AR250 or AR180.
    
11. HANDLER (HA):  The person who assists the participant.

1. Required vaccinations for all dogs in the race is DHPP
   • Distemper
   • Hepatitis
   • Parvovirus
   • Parainfluenza
2. Rabies for dogs coming to Sweden (except dogs moving from within Norway to Sweden)

1. The use of drugs or alcohol during the race by the participant/handler is strictly prohibited and leads to disqualification of the team.
2. Participants are obliged to understand and adhere to the vet information the organizer has distributed.
3. As participant YOU have by entering Amundsen Race, committed yourself to follow the present anti-doping regulations concerning both driver doping regulations www.antidoping.se as well as the national doping regulations for dogs.

Veterinary and anti-doping rules

1. The Musher Meeting is mandatory for participant and handlers. The dates and times for the meetings are published in the program on the website.
2. A participant choosing to scratch from the race shall as soon as possible notify the race management and is him/herself responsible for transportation of him/herself, their dogs, equipment and depots from the checkpoints.
3. Rescue searches will normally be initiated 24 hours after the last point of contact. Unnecessary stops between the checkpoints should therefore be avoided.
4. There is only a award ceremony / prize money for each of the classes AR350-12/8, AR250-12/8 and AR180-8 overall. For each of the classes there will be a first, second and third place.
5. There is no separate RNB class in Amundsen Race
6. The classes can be merged in case of too few participants in some classes.

1. Protests shall be submitted to the Race Marshal/Race Director in writing no later than two (2) hours after reaching the finishing line or in the next checkpoint. The protest submission fee is 100,– SEK.
