Some journeys never really end.
Long after the snow has melted, something stays with us.
It can be a place.
A short check-in with your team.
A moment in silence.
Some thoughts while preparing the next step.
A pair of eyes waiting to run again.
Perhaps that`s why winter never really leaves a musher. With summer slowly moving over to fall. And with that the longing for the cold mornings and evenings has arrived. The forming of a strong and balanced team for the season will start soon - or has started already. And then suddenly winter is right behind the corner. And we will be ready.
🤍
See you on the trail.

WHAT MUSHERS HAVE TO SAY ABOUT AMUNDSEN RACE
Every musher arrives with a different story.
In this series, we let the mushers tell you—in their own words—what Amundsen Race has meant to them.
▶ Roberto Toscani: Sometimes, you come for a race…and find a home. 💙
Roberto Toscani"

Some memories aren`t about the finish line.
Sometimes they`re a look...
a smile...
or a pair of beautiful eyes you`ll never forget.
These are the moments that stay with us. 🤍

You all know what it feels like when the snow is gone, the dogs are on summer break, but you`re mentally slowly looking toward the next winter.
In this time we`d like to look back to last seasons, because the next adventure starts with the last memory. 🤍

Hello everyone!
(long post)
A few words from us, Edmon and @mascha.verweij , right in the middle of summer.
Things have been somewhat quiet on our social media channels for a while, which may make it seem as though not much is happening. But nothing could be further from the truth!
After another successful edition of Amundsen and an otherwise always busy winter season for our small club (Jämtlandfjällens Slädhundklubb), which is run entirely by incredibly dedicated volunteers, we always need a few months to catch our breath. A little time for our own lives, our families and our dogs.
Because make no mistake: we are incredibly happy that the evaluation of Amundsen 2026 once again shows that you, the participants, see it as a very well-organised and welcoming long-distance race. But behind the race, there are no companies like there are with some of the largest long-distance races - with employees working throughout the entire year.
Our organisation consists entirely of enthusiastic and hardworking volunteers. They do everything without payment and invest an enormous amount of their own free time. Every single one of them is a fantastic person whom we are extremely proud of and deeply grateful for. We carry them in our hearts, and we hope and believe that you do too! That is why, during the build-up towards and throughout the summer, we need time to recharge our batteries for a new season and a new edition of Amundsen Race. We need to step away for a little while so that we can return with fresh energy and a clear perspective.
But the batteries are now almost 100% charged and ready for the kick-start of the 2026/27 season. And what an Amundsen we have waiting for us next year! We are incredibly happy and grateful that the WSA has placed its trust in us by giving us the opportunity to host the Long Distance World Championship within the AR250. What a ride that is going to be! Alongside it, we will of course have the familiar AR180 and AR350, our flagship races from the very beginning.
All classes running over challenging, beautiful and varied trails with plenty of elevation through the stunning nature of Jämtland.

‼️ Mark Your Calendar: Amundsen Race to Host 2027 Long Distance World Championship in Sweden: AR250
Amundsen Race to Host World Sleddog Association Long Distance World Championship in 2027
The organizing committee of the Amundsen Race (AR) and the World Sleddog Association (WSA) are delighted to announce that in 2027, AR 250 will serve as the WSA’s Long Distance World Championship for purebred sled dogs.
Starting in Strömsund, Sweden, the Amundsen Race is widely respected for its demanding course and remote wilderness setting. The event challenges mushers and their dog teams with extended distances, variable terrain, and the unpredictable conditions of the Scandinavian winter.
“We are very excited to be hosting the WSA Long Distance World Championship in 2027,” said Edmond Schoemacher, Race Director of the Amundsen Race. “That the WSA entrusts us with their long-distance world championship reflects the dedication of our team, volunteers, and community, and the quality of the race we have built over the years. We look forward to welcoming the best mushers and their purebred teams to Strömsund in 2027.”
The World Sleddog Association, the international governing body for purebred sled dog racing, selected the Amundsen Race for its proven ability to deliver a challenging and well-organized long-distance competition.
“The Amundsen Race represents everything that defines world-class long-distance mushing,” said Arno Steichler, chairman of the WSA. “Its course, organization, and commitment to the welfare of the dogs make it an ideal host for our 2027 Long-Distance World Championship.”
World championship titles will be available in the following classes: AR 250 – 8 dog class RNB1, AR 250 – 12 dog class RNB1, AR250 – 8 dog class RNB2. The Amundsen Race will take place from 25 – 28 February 2027 with registrations opening on 4 October 2026.
Further information regarding the race, qualification criteria, and registration will be announced in due course.

Time for Awards – Because Amundsen Race is more than speed
Some prizes are not measured in hours and minutes.
🐾 Best Dog Care was awarded to Buck de Lang — a recognition of outstanding care, attention and responsibility towards his dogs throughout the race. Dogs first, before , during and after the race. Well-deserved and presented by the VET-team.
🧹 Best Checkpoint Clean-Up — a first-ever award at Amundsen Race, and possibly worldwide — went to Martin, handler of Roman Habáko. His exceptional effort in leaving every checkpoint spotless did not go unnoticed. Respect for the trail, the volunteers and the race organization matters. And Martin set a new standard. Presented by Tineke and Anton, Checkpoint Responsible for Fjällsikten.
🔥 Motivational Award, presented by Uwe, went to Claudia Volk — for perseverance, courage and the reminder to keep believing in yourself, go got everything that you need within you.
And finally — the people behind it all.
The Amundsen Race Crew.
Endless hours before the start. Long days and short nights during the race. And still work to do after the last team has finished.
Trail crew, vets, volunteers, organizers, media team — this race stands on your shoulders.
Without you, there is no Amundsen Race.
Thank you. 💙🐾
One last prize given from the Crew to Mascha and Endmond as a simple but strong "Thank you for everything you did, do and will do - We love you."
And if that does not tell you "We are a family at Amundsen Race" - then what will convince you?! You want to experience that live? Simply sign up for next years` race. 😎
