ENTRY FEE STOP
The race has a limited number of places which are filled now. It is possible to be put up on the waiting list by filling in and sending the entry form. In case places come available, the driver(s) on the waiting list will be contacted by email. The date and time we received the entry-form is counting as order for the waitinglist. The race organization does not want advanced payments.

The race organization is delighted with the great interest shown for the race. The final 8 teams on the entry list all paid their entry fee on the same day which meant the race had 5 teams over its 40-entries limit. We from the organization have decided to let all those 8 drivers start, rather than draw between them.
As a consequence, we from the organization decided:
When the number of starting teams drops to under 40 teams, entry/entries from
the waiting list will be given the opportunity to take the(se) place(s).
We hope that all have understanding for our decision.

The race organization

The race has 28 entries in 12-dog class and 17 entries in the 8-dog class.

of starting teams.
Remaining teams who have send in their entry-form, are put on the waiting list in order of date of entry. In case of drop out from the start list to under 40 teams, the driver(s) on the waitinglist will be contacted

Information and rules for change of class

Since 12dog- and 8-dog classes are competing over the same distance and on the same trail, it is decided that a driver entered in 12-dog class is allowed to change
to 8-dog class (and vice versa) as late as the veterinary control upon inchecking.
A driver who changes class after start numbers have been drawn, has to start last in the class.

Drivers who change from 12-dog to 8-dog class will get 500 SEK price-difference refunded. Drivers who change from 8-dog class to 12-dog class will have to pay
the price difference of 500 SEK.

An overview with accomodation alternatives during the race can be found under Information and Trail. The number of cabins for rent in Storåbränna is limited, so 'first asked, first served' applies here, but there are also few other alternatives
being offered.

New Amundsen Race 2013

After the decision to cancel AR 2012, changes have been made for the race of 2013. We are a new group of people in the organization and up for a new approach. We have evaluated the previous seasons, looked at resources and are now ready to present next year’s running of the race.

The start is Saturday 23 February at 11:00 hrs in Strömsund

The most essential changes are:

The race is going to be ca. 300 km. with a mandatory rest of 6 hours and 4 hours. Time equalization is to be leveled out with the first mandatory rest of six hours. There will be 3 checkpoints. Time limit at the checkpoints will be removed but latest time to finish will be 15:00 hours on Monday 25/2

The race is going to have 2 classes: open class 8-12 dogs and limited class 6-8 dogs.

Mass start is replaced by traditional start.

Most of the trail is in forest terrain, swamps and hill terrain in the municipalities of Strömsund and Krokom.

Rules and regulations will be updated and published before the first entry date of 1. October.

We realize that the mass start has been spectacular, but also prone to discussions because of the variable ice conditions. In 2012 the ice was declared unsafe two days before start of the race.
The decision to omit a mass start is because we have not found a suitable location on land that provides enough space for a mass start.

The decision to change the race is based on:

  • The wish and need for a trail in an area which is not exposed to ‘hard weather’. That implies a trail in 'low' terrain.
  • The possibility to have start, finish and checkpoints in the vicinity, implying short driving distances for handlers, volunteers and the general public.
  • To keep costs for accommodation as low as possible for participants and organization.

New Amundsen Race.

The race that follows you to the finish line!

Our vision:

Amundsen Race is the obvious choice for both beginners and experienced mushers interested in competing long distances.

What do we offer?
A well organized competition that is easily accessible for both mushers and their handlers, as well as exciting for sponsors and the general public. The competition is challenging for both beginners as well as experienced mushers, and the trails are manned with a kind and supportive staff.
